Woman Hurt in Town of Maine Dispute
A woman was injured in the town of Maine after she tried to stop her boyfriend from driving away in her truck.
Authorities say 28-year-old William Wellman Jr. of Grant Street in West Corners faces several charges in connection with the domestic dispute.
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, Wellman is accused of kicking the door at a residence on Route 26 in Maine.
Wellman then allegedly broke a telephone and tried to flee in the woman's truck.
Investigators say the woman sustained minor injuries when she fell to the ground as she tried to stop Wellman from driving away. Wellman is said to have pushed her from the truck while it was moving.
Sheriff's deputies spotted Wellman in a nearby creek bed. He allegedly ran from deputies, who caught with him after a short foot pursuit.
Officials say Wellman had a small amount of marijuana in his possession when he was taken into custody.
Wellman has been charged with felony reckless endangerment. He also faces counts of criminal mischief, resisting arrest and marijuana possession.
Wellman was arraigned in Union town court. He was sent to Broome County Jail to await further court action.
Deputies say the woman was evaluated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and released.
