Investigators are looking for the cause of the latest fire at Golden Rule/ All Around Building Supply in Binghamton's First Ward that destroyed the sprawling complex.

The site has been the scene of numerous suspicious fires over the past several years. Authorities have been called to the location on Brown Street near Glenwood Avenue five times in six years since the former lumber yard closed.  The most recent call, which had been ruled an arson fire, was on March 10th.

Fire officials said it was determined there was no point in risking firefighter’s safety trying to save the building and crews launched a defensive stance, protecting neighboring properties. There were no injuries.

Firefighters were called to the two alarm blaze at around 9:15 a.m. June 9 and stayed on the scene for most of the day.  The streets around the site didn’t reopen until around seven in the evening.

The smell of smoke from the raging fire could be smelled as far away to the west as Vestal.
