The Oneonta City School District Board of Education voted unanimously for the reconfiguration of the middle school at its regularly scheduled meeting Wednesday night.

The vote comes after the idea to move sixth grade to the middle school was brought to the table at the last meeting. Effective in the fall 2013, grades 6-8 will all be housed in the Oneonta middle school.

"It's certainly something that when we did the space-utilization study a few years ago that was a topic that was included in a couple committees that undertook that," BOE member Jaime Reynolds said. "Certainly there's some positives that will come from that. It may not be 100 percent perfect, but certainly it is one of the least objectionable things we can do to still save programs for kids and provide the best education we can."
