NYS Tough Gun Controls Upheld; Gun Group Plans Appeal
The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association plans to appeal a ruling largely upholding tough gun control laws in New York and Connecticut. Tom King, the group's president, said Monday's decision by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan was not a surprise. He predicted the U.S. Supreme Court may decide to look at the decision along with three recent rulings on state gun control laws in five other cases. New York and Connecticut banned possession of semi-automatic weapons and large-capacity magazines after 20 first-graders and six educators were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut in December 2012. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen were among those who praised the decision.
