One of the great Broadway musicals will be coming to the council of the arts theater Friday through Sunday.

“Godspell” is being staged by the Norwich Theater Company, directed by Mark Sands.

“We formed backed in 2010 and our first production was a Christmastime event,” said Richard Hines, president of the Norwich Theater Company. “We are a new theater company to the area. Last year we did ‘Annie Get Your Gun’. We are completely a volunteer organization made up of neighbors and friends in the community that all volunteer.”

“Godspell” is one of several musicals on Broadway in the 1970s that was based on the bible. It is a whimsical retelling of the last seven days of Christ’s life, based on the Gospel of St. Matthew.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Martin W. Kappel theatre on West Main Street in Norwich.
