Elizabeth Monaco, executive director of Chenango United Way, is extremely pleased that this year’s campaign beat its goal for the first time since 2008, raising $885 more than its goal of $444,000.

Monaco says the total was reached in final minutes of the campaign.

"The community in general really did a fantastic job this year in helping us out," she said. "We raised substantially more than we did last year. We have 25 applications in and it looks like we're going to fund 21 of them. It's been a tremendous year."

The United Way board will meet Thursday to determine the final allocations to the 21 agencies. Following the Thursday meeting, the United Way campaign plans for this year will get underway.
