Have you seen the new tribute to legendary Oneonta Fire Chief Francis "Cootie" Russo?

Well, a new children's playground is rising on the grassy plain of the well-used 6th Ward Booster Club Field off River Street.  While an official opening of the playground is still a short time away (July 2), I just had to go and see it for myself.  This is what it will look like when finished:

It looks like one of the Chief's old fire trucks and will offer city youth hours of summertime fun for years ahead.  The playground was financed in part through sales of an interesting homemade hot sauce that "has the Chief written all over it!"  It even has his name right on the label!
