New Exhibit in Saratoga Highlights Civil War In NYS

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — A new exhibit at the New York State Military Museum tells the story of the key role the Empire State played in the Union's victory in the Civil War.

The exhibit, titled "New York in the Civil War," recently opened at the museum housed in a former state armory in Saratoga Springs. Officials say it will be a permanent part of the museum, with artifacts on display rotated annually.

The relics currently on display include uniforms, weapons and battle flags used by New Yorkers who fought in some of the wars bloodiest battles, including Gettysburg, fought 150 years ago this week.

Museum officials say the state began collecting wartime items two years before the war ended in 1865.
