With the busy holiday season in full swing, state police are continuing to crack down on drinking and driving.

For the rest of December drivers can expect to see increased police presence on the roads, with DWI check points scattered throughout the region.

There has been a recent decline in alcohol related vehicle crashes statewide, but police say there is always a spike in alcohol related crashes this time of year, especially in snowy weather.

Last year more than 8,000 crashes statewide were attributed to alcohol.
