State senator James Seward says that the 'Start-Up NY' plan, that passed Wednesday by both houses of the legislature, is a positive modification of Governor Andrew Cuomo's Tax-Free NY proposal. The plan will assist with upstate job growth.

“Our SUNY campus and our community colleges remain the centerpiece of our economic development strategy, which will make our region of the state because of our number of campuses, a clear focal point for prospective new employers,” Seward said. “The proposal also revamps the Excelsior Jobs Program an effort to help existing businesses create jobs, particularly those in the all-important manufacturing sector. There’s also a new provision that will allow company’s to call for a review of state mandates.”

Seward says Start-Up NY is not the cure-all for job creation, but rather a tool to further enhance what New York has to offer. Additional steps to reduce taxes on businesses, lower utility costs and cutting government red tape are needed to improve the state's economy.
