Register To Be a Potential Bone Marrow Donor
SUNY Oneonta’s Zeta Beta Tau fraternity will host its third annual Gift of Life Bone
Marrow Registration Drive from noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, and Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Hunt College Union ballroom.
The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation was founded in 1991 with the goal of finding bone marrow matches for people suffering from life-threatening illnesses, including leukemia, lymphoma and other cancers and genetic diseases. The foundation has now registered over 250,000 volunteer donors and helped facilitate more than 3,000 bone marrow transplants for patients in need.
Over the past two years, more than 1,200 people have joined the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Registry through drives held at SUNY Oneonta. This has resulted in two donor matches being found for patients suffering from blood cancers, including one match that was discovered just two months ago.
The registration drive is sponsored by the Gift of Life Foundation and is free and open to the public. Appointments are not necessary and walk-ins are welcome.
