UPDATE 2:05PM: National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touchdown in Metropolitan New York.  A tornado swept through Breezy Point in Queens, N.Y about an hour ago.  Power is out there and damage is being assessed.  A TORNADO WATCH has just been issued for Otsego and Delaware Counties until 10:00PM.  At 2:05PM gusty winds are being reported thr0ughout our listening area. Check back here for more updates as they become available.

UPDATE 12;15PM:  National Weather Service reports a long and strong line of heavy thunderstorms moving in to our listening area later thais afternoon from the west.  Currently they are located just west of I-81.  The storm came through Buffalo this morning causing power outages and structural damage in the downtown area.  There are reports of a tornado touching down in Buffalo but this has not been confirmed by meteorologists at this time.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather alert for our region saying that today could be a wild day in our listening area. Here is their report as of Saturday morning:

IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL INTENSIFY LATER THIS MORNING OR EARLY IN THE AFTERNOON ACROSS WESTERN NEW YORK AND NORTHWEST PENNSYLVANIA. THIS LINE OF STORMS SHOULD THEN MOVE EASTWARD THROUGH CENTRAL NEW YORK BETWEEN 2 AND 8 PM.

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT THREAT FROM THESE STORMS APPEARS TO BE STRONG DAMAGING WINDS... PERHAPS IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH. A FEW ISOLATED TORNADOES CANNOT BE RULED OUT... ESPECIALLY TO THE EAST OF THE INTERSTATE 81 CORRIDOR.

THE MOST LIKELY TIME FRAME FOR SEVERE WEATHER IS FROM 2 TO 4 PM. FOR THE INTERSTATE 81 CORRIDOR... FROM THE SYRACUSE METRO AREA... SOUTHWARD THROUGH CORTLAND... BINGHAMTON... THE MOST LIKELY TIME FRAME IS FROM 4 TO 6 PM. FOR ROME... UTICA... COOPERSTOWN... AND NORWICH... AS WELL AS THE WESTERN CATSKILLS... LOOK FOR SEVERE WEATHER TO MOVE IN BETWEEN 6 AND 8 PM.
