SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 10-year-old girl abducted in Pennsylvania, triggering an Amber Alert, has been found safe and her alleged abductor is in custody in upstate New York.

Police in Pennsylvania tell WSYR-TV that Peter Tarbox, of Gordon, Pa., was taken into custody Thursday night in the town of Gouverneur in St. Lawrence County. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.

The Amber Alert, issued earlier for a green Saab believed to be heading toward the town of Norwood, has been canceled.

State police say the girl, identified as Alexandria Jade Long, was abducted in Gordon, Pa. Police say Tarbox is a former acquaintance of the girl's mother and was a stranger to the child.
