Oneonta Police Arrest Timothy Button in Connection with Recent Robberies
The Oneonta Police Department released a statement via its Facebook page saying it has arrested 25-year-old Timothy A. Button in connection with a recent string of robberies in the area.
Police say Button confessed to the crimes and has been charged with three counts of second-degree burglary, a class C felony; two counts of petit larceny, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree criminal mischief, all class A misdemeanors.
The burglaries occurred at homes on Central and Ford Avenues and Cedar Street.
The recent robberies prompted the OPD to release the following information Thursday:
In light of the recent burglaries in the center city area, we want to remind people of these important safety tips:
1. Lock your doors and windows.
2. If the doors have a dead bolt lock or security chain - use it.
3. Do not prop open outer doors.
4. Do not leave messages on your door indicating that you are away and when you will return.
5. Don't tell a stranger that your neighbor is not at home.
6. Never leave a house key available: under a doormat, in a flower pot, on the ledge of the door, these are the first places a burglar will look.
Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something that doesn't seem right, do not hesitate to report it.
