ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — State officials are reminding New York residents to be prepared for disasters.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says New York has experienced some of the most devastating natural disasters in its history in recent years, as well as the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

September is Preparedness Month, and Cuomo is urging New Yorkers to form or review emergency plans. Plans could include stocking up on emergency supplies and subscribing to NY-ALERT, the state's alert and notification system.
