U.S. Representative Richard Hanna announced Tuesday the Lt. Warren Eaton airport in Norwich has been selected to receive $517,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation to make upgrades.

The grant will be used to install a new taxiway lighting system to enhance safe operations during low visibility and provide for the replacement of the airport's rotating beacon.

The original beacon was installed 23 years ago and has reached the end of its useful life.

Rep. Hanna, a pilot and member of the house transportation and infrastructure committee, said the funding will make the necessary upgrades at Lt. Warren Eaton airport and maintain safety and operational efficiency.
