At around 6 p.m. last night, fire broke out on county highway 33, just north of Phoenix Mills at the former residence of Dr. Rodman Carter, a long-time Bassett Hospital urologist who passed away last December.

According to AllOTSEGO, the fire destroyed the garage the damage extended into an addition that connected the garage with the house.  Battling the blaze were fire companies from Cooperstown, Hartwick Seminary, Hartwick, Milford, Mount Vision, Fly Creek, Middlefield, and Springfield. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
