Shortly after noon, firemen from the Norwich Fire Department responded to a fire at the CZ-USA, Dan Wesson Firearms Facility south of Norwich on State Route 12.

Upon arrival, firemen met heavy smoke coming from the rear section of the company's auxiliary building. No one was injured and the fire was completely out by 2 p.m.

The building's interior was heavily damaged, but according to an employee, the hardwood walls of the building left little damage to the exterior of the facility.

The fire began in the basement where most of the ammunition is stored. An employee said the ammunition was well protected, but caution was taken by fire fighters.

There were a few minor injuries. An employee burned his hand trying to put out the fire. He was treated at the scene. One firefighter was also slightly injured after he became tangled in wire. The fire caused smoke damage to the first and 2nd floor.

Route 12 from Wal-Mart south to the halfway bridge was closed for about 2 and a half hours.
