Finally A Gas Station Giveaway That Kids Could Enjoy (circa. 1962)!

How many remember when these yellow and black tiger tails were the hottest giveaway at a gas station.  It was back in 1962.

For the most part most of the giveaway premiums at gas stations were "adult oriented."  Steak knives, maps, ice scrapers, etc.  But in 1962 ESSO  ran with their advertising jingle ("put a tiger in your tank") and thousands of these were handed out.

I remember my Dad getting one of these and all the kids in the family fought over who got to hang it from the gas tank of his 1960 Plymouth!
