The Chenango United Way campaign officially got underway Saturday with the annual "Day of Caring."

Executive Director of Chenango United Way Elizabeth Monaco says the weather was perfect and a lot of projects are now done.

"We able to do things like landscaping, painting, general cleanup in the community, work with community members, feed the hungry," Monaco said. "We collected over 1,000 hygiene products for the community to distribute to local food pantries and soup kitchens. We're excited to start the United Way campaign."

This year’s goal is set at $456,000, which is a little higher than last year. Monaco says she is confident that the community will come forward again this year to help fund the 21 necessary programs they support, especially with all the cuts in federal and state aid.

The United Way campaign runs through Dec. 30.
