The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Town of Afton woman on March 6th, 2014 for two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to officials, deputies responded to a report of loose dogs at a residence in Afton. While attempting to locate the owner of the dogs, a deputy repeatedly knocked on a door, behind which an infant could be heard crying. When nobody answered the door the deputy entered the residence, finding two infants in the care of Jessica Levesque. The deputy stated he observed a burning piece of wood hanging out of the stove within feet of the infants. The stove also did not have an adequate door to contain the fire.

Levesque was arrested on two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and issued an appearance ticket. She will appear in Afton Town Court at a later date.
