Chenango County is making a big adjustment in its reported deaths attributed to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Health Department notes a jump in deaths from the 53 reported on March 1 to 63 reported March 2.

The Health Department says, “please understand that this total represents a culmination of weeks of record requests and reviews and not an acute loss of life.” There was no further clarification concerning the jump in numbers and attributed the information to New York State reporting.  Chenango County only reported five new cases for the day for a total of 2,449 since the start of the pandemic.

Broome County reports a woman in her 80s has passed away, bringing the county’s death toll from COVID-19 to 315.  There were 116 new cases reported March 2 for a total of 14,567.  Cortland County had 17 new cases for a total of 3,737. The death toll remains at 62.  Delaware County added 7 cases in the March 2 update for a total of 1,541.  Deaths were unchanged at 42 and Tioga County reports six more cases for a total of 2,864.  There have been 70 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
