Broome County Animal Park Says it Will Open as a Drive-Through Zoo

According to a local roadside animal attraction’s facebook page, it plans to reopen this week even though the type of business is not specifically listed under state-approved phase-one industry.

Similar to action seen on news reports that has taken by other attractions across the country, Animal Adventure Park says it is opening a drive-through zoo attraction Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. 

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar didn’t answer whether he thought the opening was legal, but praised the owner’s ingenuity in taking advantage of the governor’s nod to allow such things as drive-in movies.

Saying "Going extinct is not an option!", Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville says it will adhere to an "internally drafted and staff trained Safe Practices Protocol."

Visitors will be able to drive through the park to see over 30 species of animals from inside their vehicles with no direct contact with the animals and minimal personal contact with cash only admission.

The business says it is “100 percent capable of providing a safe, low-risk educational and entertaining experience to our community.”
