This is an actual advertisement from 1956.

It is almost impossibile to conceive of an ad agency employing the concept of a woman opening a bottle of ketchup as to be "inspiring" or "liberating."  When I saw this ad I thought..."Gee before this new fangled twist off cap, what the heck did a woman have to go through to open up a bottle of ketchup?  Use a wrench!"

And think how free women felt when they could open up a jar of mustard!   Like Helen Reddy said in the song....."I am woman....hear me roar!"
