Who is the Cop in that 1955 Oneonta Postcard?

Many listeners have asked me "Who is the Oneonta cop in the old photograph of Downtown Oneonta? I have received many emails from people asking about his identity. One listener suggested it is "Scrappy" Loucks on patrol. Several others have suggested that it is Officer Carl Delberta, Sr.

Carl, of course, was a legendary Oneonta public servant who was also the founder of the Boys and Girls Club on River Street.

But perhaps the definitive answer comes from retired Oneonta police officer Dave Clapp who wrote : "I think that cop is Paul Wenck. Paul usually wore a silver whistle chain or braid on the left shoulder of his uniform but my eyes arn't what they used to be."

So it looks like our mystery cop might be Officer Paul Wenck.

BUT WAIT..another longtime resident just emailed me the following:  "Big Chuck, I think the cop is Bob Wenck, Paul Wenck's brother.  Bob was the regular cop who directed traffic on that corner (back when they did that!)"

So...the mystery continues!
