I picked up a promotional brochure the other day titled "Greater Oneonta New York."  It was lovely.

It extolled the virtues of our fair city in words and photos.  The stores, the mountains, the businesses, the colleges and hospitals, the cafes and restaurants, the people.  You know.  The whole "Life Enjoyed" thing.

But one phrase caught my eye.  "Just across the river there is an inviting walkway, golf course, a nine-screen movie theater, roller rink and bowling alley."  An inviting walkway?  Where?

Well, for those of you who have no idea where it is, and I think that is almost everyone, the Oneonta Greenway is a gorgeous two-mile walking trail which hugs the Susquehanna River down by the waste water treatment plant (gulp) on the west end.

Once you pass the municipal complex and water and sewer department you will find the trail.

The Oneonta Greenway is the first of what hopes to be a six-mile hiking trail which goes from here all the way to Fortin Park on the East End of the city.

The Greenway a a great place to take a hike!  The folks who care for this little sliver of beauty have just erected 16 new trail markers which describe the landscape, flowers, fauna etc of the area.

Bird watchers haunt the place, kids love to bike the trail, cross country skiers and snowshoers enjoy the hike on a winter's day, dog walkers have found a new favorite spot and picnic fans can enjoy the newly installed pavilion with two picnic tables.

Have I been there yet?  No.  Am I going to go? You betcha.

Now that I know where it is.....
