Baseball legend Roberto Clement died on this day in 1972.  The plane he was in crashed during a flight to Nicaragua with earthquake assistance.

Clemente's career still inspires awe decades after his death.  15 All-Stars, 2 World Series rings, 12 Golden Glove Awards, 4 NL Batting titles.  And on and on it goes.

Clemente was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame just one year after his death.  His induction in 1973 marked only the second time a member of the Hall of Fame was inducted without going through the mandatory waiting period following their departure from the game.  The other player is Lou Gehrig.

Roberto Clemente:  Legend, Humanitarian, Inspiration.

He got his historic 3,000th hit on October 3, 1972....the last at bat of his career!  And here is that unforgettable moment....
