Utica Man Sentenced for Manslaughter of Infant Son
UTICA, N.Y. (AP) — A central New York man has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for causing the death of his infant son, whose body was found in the Mohawk River last year.
Local media report that 28-year-old Jevon Wameling of Utica didn't reveal details during Thursday's sentencing of how nine-month-old Levon Wameling died. After police divers recovered his body from the river on Sept. 6, an autopsy revealed the baby had suffered a fractured skull.
Wameling pleaded guilty in November to manslaughter. He said Levon suffered a head injury in late May after falling off a coach. Wameling said he panicked and placed the body in a container, filled it with rocks and sunk it in the Mohawk.
Wameling had told police in June that his son had disappeared from their home.
