Thursday Oldies Flashback: Gene McDaniels’ “100 Pounds of Clay” (VIDEO)
Gene McDaniels was one of the truly great R&B singers of the early 1960s. His three biggest hits were "Chip Chip," "A Hundred Pounds of Clay," and "Tower of Strength."
Here is an amazing video clip.
In his later years, McDaniels lived as a self-described "hermit" in the wilds of Maine. Still, he would emerge once in a while to chat with students about his career. Watch this video. Gene McDaniels, just a year before he passed away, appears in front of a small music class and sings "A Hundred Pounds of Clay" for them. You can plainly see that this great recording star had lost none of his soul right up to the end of his life. I love this video.
