Broome County Emergency Services officials say they were aware of power out in some areas although the scope had been unclear.  There had been no word from the utility concerning what was behind such a wide area losing power.

According to the Outage Central listing, areas like the Towns of Barker, Fenton (hardest hit with 1,159 customers, many of those in Port Crane), Greene, Triangle, Plymouth and Willet as well as the Village of Whitney Point were experiencing power interruption.

Authorities reported in the areas where the power was out, traffic lights were also generally not operating.  Motorists should remember anytime a traffic signal is not operating, that intersection should be treated as a four-way stop.

At 8 a.m. , NYSEG was predicting power to be restored to most customers by 10:15 a.m.

These Tiny Upstate Villages Each Has An Amazing Historical Footnote

Each of the 13 villages on this list has less than 1,000 residents. Still, they all have something worth stopping by for a visit too. Something historic, fun, or just plain fascinating, each is worth a side trip. Visit the Three Bears in Ovid (pop. 602). You won't see that anywhere else in the U.S. Stop and say hello to TV stars "The Beekman Boys" in Sharon Springs (pop. 558). And why is the National Abolition Museum and Hall of Fame in Peterboro (pop.176)? Each of these tiny map dots have a great story to tell.
