Over 65 years ago, a group of men came up with an idea for a Miss Rodeo America pageant and that pageant is still going strong today.

37 years after the Miss Rodeo America pageant began, in 1992, Wrangler got involved as a sponsor of the Miss Rodeo America Scholarship Foundation. Each year, $100,000 in educational scholarships are awarded including $1,000 scholarships which are given to each and every girl who competes in the Miss Rodeo America Pageant.

The Miss Rodeo America pageant is a pageant for incredible cowgirls. Each contestant in the pageant is judged on a variety of things including appearance, personality, horsemanship, speech, photogenics, and even how well they do on a written test.

New York has never seen a resident crowned queen of the Miss Rodeo America pageant, but two young ladies from Broome County are hoping to work their way up to that crown. They are 11-year-old Anah Huston of Whitney Point who is hoping to take the title of Lil' Miss Rodeo New York 2022 and 17-year-old Lorna Watkins of Endwell who hopes to take home the 2022 Teen Miss Rodeo New York crown.

11-year-old Anah Huston is in the 6th grade and lives on a farm with her family in Whitney Point. She is active in 4H Fireballs and plays field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse.

Anah started riding horses when she was six years old and currently takes lessons at Heavenly Acres. Anah's dream is to become a professional barrel racer and a part-time trick rider. When she heard about the opportunity at the Broome County Fair to run for Lil' Miss Rodeo New York, she knew she wanted to give it a try. Anah has been busy studying Rodeo, equine knowledge and care, and putting together outfits for the pageant.

Both of our local contestants in the Miss Rodeo America Pageant are up against other young ladies who are also from New York and whether or not our girls advance has a lot to do with the number of votes they get in the People's Choice Contest conducted through the Miss Rodeo New York Facebook page.

Let's rally around both Anah and Lorna and let them know that our community supports their dreams by placing a vote for each of them. You have until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, to place your vote by "liking" the photos of our local girls on the Miss Rodeo New York Facebook page.  You can vote for Anah here and you can vote for Lorna here.
