The Oneonta Theatre announced today that it was closing its doors on New Year's day.  First Night activities scheduled to be held in the theatre on New Year's Eve will go on as planned.

Theatre owner Tom Cormier said he is closing the theatre due to financial strain. He has put the theatre up for sale, but said he is not opposed to partnering with an investor or non-profit organization to keep it running.

Cormier is meeting with the board of the nonprofit Friends of the Oneonta Theatre next week. He has been the owner since 2009.

The Oneonta Theatre has been in existence for 115 years.
