The Rexmere Hotel in Stamford, most recently known as the Frank Cyr Educational Center, was leveled by fire today.

Twenty-four fire departments from four counties converged on the Delaware County landmark in an attempt to save the structure. At the height of the blaze, six ladder trucks tackled the blaze from above, but to no avail. The building is a total loss. No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Ron Galley interviewed Stamford Fire Department's Second Assistant, Joe Hornbeck:

Built in 1888, the former hotel , according to Stamford Mayor Joan Hinman, was both a "mainstay" and a "symbol" of the community. The Mayor made some further remarks on the loss of the building:

The building was recently on the market for $600,000.
