The operative word this year is staycation.  After the awful year many small attractions, businesses, restaurants, museums and retail shops had, I think this is the perfect year to stay in New York and see (maybe for the first time) some of the Empire State's great destinations.

To view Taughannock Falls for the first time can be quite breathtaking.  You can find this beautiful place just north of Ithaca, near Trumansburg on the west side of Cayuga Lake.  Taughannock Falls State Park is gorgeous in all seasons, most particularly the summer and the fall.  The park has all the amenities and conveniences you would come to expect from a state park.  There are ample "photo ops" for the beautiful natural surroundings and many nice hiking options.

The star of this park, however, is Taughannock Falls.  This cascading ribbon of water is one of the most photographed natural icons of Upstate New York.  And it is a historic waterfall.  The drop is an eye-popping 215 feet making it the highest single drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains.  Pretty impressive, especially when you consider that is even higher than the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara (187 feet).

There is an easily maneuvered trail to the base of the waterfalls for the perfect Upstate New York selfie at the pool at the bottom of the falls.  Put this on your bucket list for a summer staycation!
