ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A state legislator has filed a court brief supporting the federal lawsuit aimed at overturning New York's new gun restrictions.

Sen. Kathy Marchione, a Saratoga Republican, is asking a judge for permission to join the court record supporting the state affiliate of the National Rifle Association, sportsmen's groups and others.

They say the statute enacted Jan. 15 violates second amendment rights. Marchione, who voted against it and gathered 130,000 online petition signatures for repeal, says those provisions contradict U.S. Supreme Court rulings and won't withstand judicial scrutiny. State lawyers say the constitutional claims have no merit.
