State Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin said he is considering a run for the governorship. Since Governor Cuomo defeated republican challenger Carl Paladino in 2010, the search has been on for the next republican challenger.

McLaughlin said in an interview that anger with the NY SAFE Act could play out in his favor because of the governor’s current low-approval rating in Upstate New York. McLaughlin said he would make the decision as early as this summer or fall.
