According to several media reports, including the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Charter Communications, which owns Spectrum Cable and internet, plans to increase rates for cable packages by $7.50 a month and the cost of the Spectrum cable boxes $.50 a month.

If you get your internet through Spectrum but not cable television, your rate is also increasing by $4 a month.  Spectrum is putting the blame on the cost broadcast stations charge them to carry their channels.

The increase in the non-promotional Spectrum packages is starting to be seen by customers this month.

Over the past couple of years, the cable company had fights with several broadcast providers with customers being left without some of their local channels for months as the two sides squabbled over fees.

Spectrum was also at odds with the New York State Public Service Commission over its promises to deliver expanded broadband services in rural areas as part of its deal to acquire Time Warner Cable, which never materialized.
