Sen. Seward Aids Local Retired Teacher in Benefit Dispute
State Senator James Seward announced passage of legislation he sponsored to assist a retired Richfield Springs teacher being forced to repay the New York State Teachers Retirement System nearly $64,000 due to an accounting error made by the system. Katherine Sweeney retired in 2004 and 14 years later she was notified that a miscalculation meant she owed around $50,000 and that amount went up by $14,000 a year later.
The bill now goes to Governor Cuomo for his signature.
