Sen. Thomas Libous (R-Binghaton) was accused by prosecutors on the opening day of his trial of lying to Federal agents seven times during a sworn deposition with the FBI.  Libous, who is battling cancer, has represented the Southern Tier for years and is charged with fraudulently funneling money to his son who was seekinbg employment with a White Plains law firm.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Allee said the senator promised that if the law firm hired his son, Matthew, the "law firm would get so much business sent their way they would have to build a new wing" for thier offices.
