SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a historic fountain in a Saratoga Springs park has been vandalized by people apparently taking out coins that had been tossed in by visitors.

City officials tell The Saratogian that the cast-iron fountain in Congress Park was toppled early Thursday morning. They say surveillance video shows two men and two women going into the park with a flashlight and afterward running up a street near the park.

The fountain was installed in the 1870s near a gambling casino owned by John Morrissey, who started Saratoga's first thoroughbred racing season 150 years ago this month.

The fountain is being repaired by the city's Department of Public Works. The fountain had recently been repaired and re-installed after being knocked over in June.

Police say they're investigating both incidents.
