Most people know that Matt Brewing Company in Utica, NY makes the popular Saranac beer, but growing up, Utica Club beer brewed by that same company, was a staple in our house.  My dad has always been a big fan of that locally made beer.

Maybe because it has such a unique history.

As it happens, Utica Club was the first beer licensed for sale at the end of prohibition and then grew in popularity among beer lovers nationwide.  That popularity might have had to do with the very clever television ads featuring the talking mugs Schultz and Dooley.
