Grace May Forgit, 38, a former Otsego County resident, was arrested Monday on two felonies for stealing money and removing business records from a motel to conceal her crimes.

In August, the owner of Amber Life Inn in Colliersville contacted the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office to report that his former manager had stolen cash from room rentals and took business records with her when she left.

Following an audit of the business records, it was discovered between April 1-July 31 Forgit allegedly stole approximately $5,000 in cash from the business and failed to make proper entries into the business records. She is alleged to have removed some of the records from the business as well.

An investigation revealed that Forgit had fled to Florida in early August when the complaint was made. A warrant for Forgit’s arrest was obtained in the Town of Milford Court in late November.

Last week, she returned to Otsego County and surrendered to Otsego County sheriff deputies.

Forgit was arrested for third degree grand larceny and first degree falsifying business records. She was arraigned by Village of Cooperstown Judge Gary M. Kuch, who remanded Forgit to the Otsego County correctional facility on $5,000 cash bail.

Forgit faces up to eleven years in prison if convicted.
