SUNY Oneonta will host a free program on winter storm preparedness on Thursday. The Binghamton office of the National Weather Service, in conjunction with local emergency management officials, will present an overview of the dangers of winter weather and information that citizens can use to help local first responders better protect their communities.

In 2009, SUNY Oneonta became the second college in New York State to be designated a "storm ready university" by the NWS. Storm Ready is a national program that helps communities develop plans to handle all types of severe weather.

The event will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in room 130 of the Morris Conference Center on the college's campus.

To register, email bgm.skywarn@noaa.gov or call the NWS Binghamton office at (607) 729-1597 ext. 4.
