How many remember visiting this place while on vacation?

Point Lookout Mountain Inn sat perched on the side of a steep mountain just outside of Windham on Rt. 23.  It had a restaurant and gift shop but was most famous for its fantastic 5 state view.  On a clear day you could see New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  The view was an incredible 180-miles.  The inn is a dramatic 1,900 feet above sea level.  The view in the autumn is spectacular!

As a kid we loved to put our nickels into those big, metal viewfinders to scope out the distant landscape.  It was always a much anticipated stop on our Catskill Mountains vacation trail.

Recent reports place this historic spot as closed and auctioned off.  It had been in existence for more than 75 years.  Like the Catskill Game Farm, another great vacation memory from "the old days" is now gone.
