Pennsylvania to Drop COVID Restrictions on Memorial Day

Pennsylvania is lifting all its capacity restrictions put into place last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic on Memorial Day.

The Health Department says mitigation orders, except requiring people to wear masks indoors and outdoors when away from home, will be lifted May 31 at 12:01 a.m. The masking orders will be lifted when 70% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated.

In a statement from the Department of Health issued on May 4, officials said Pennsylvania continues to make significant progress in efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Department of Health Acting Secretary Alison Beam urged Pennsylvanians to get vaccinated and follow through if they receive the Moderna or Pfizer shots.

The updates will not prevent municipalities and school districts from continuing and implementing stricter mitigation efforts.

In addition to mask-wearing, residents are advised to continue frequent hand-washing, sanitizing and social distancing.
