While walking home from work today I was shocked to see a For Sale sign in front of a very surprising place...the historic First Baptist Church at 67 Chestnut Street!  The building, more than a century old, is noted for its intricate stone and brick work, gigantic turreted tower and ornate stained glass windows.

Was I shocked?  Yes.  But I am sure there is an explanation.  Maybe the church moved long ago into the various other Baptist churches in the area.  Maybe the congregation has dwindled to where this huge building is just to large for the small numbers that attend.  I welcome any comments as to the reason for the sale of this venerable Oneonta landmark.  Whatever the reason, I wish all of those who attend services here a positive future and much happiness in your new worship location.

God only knows.  No...really.   God only knows!
