How many remember the old Del-Sego Drive-in movie?  It reigned supreme during most of the 1950s and 1960s as one of Oneonta's greatest gathering places.

You could get a couple of good movies, plus some excellent concession stand food all for a very reasonable price.  The Del-Sego stood whee today's Price Chopper Supermarket is now in Emmons.  For my family there were four reasons to bring the family up from Sidney to Oneonta: the fifteen cent hamburgers at Carrolls, the curly fries at the Pink Pig, a ride on the "moving stairs" at Bresees and a night at the movies at the Del-Sego!

We'd get to the drive-in early so us kids could play at the old playground underneath and behind the gigantic screen.  It had slides, little old buildings to crawl around in, swings and all the usual playground amenities one could expect in the 1950s.

Of course the Del-Sego is a long gone memory now.

BUT LOOK WHAT I FOUND THIS WEEKEND!

The playground!

I was at the Oktoberfest at the old Wilber stone mansion on Rt. 7 on the far east end.  It was a beautiful fall day and I explored the grounds of the festival.  And there, behind a large stand of hedgerows I saw it.  A giant slide sticking up from the weeds.  And then a towering swing set and some little buildings and more.  I was told this is the actual old playground from the Del-Sego drive-in days.  I have no reason to believe otherwise.  It was neat.

Check out my photos and the video of this surprising find!

One of the buildings said "Wilber Hops Co." on it!
