Oneonta Schools Staying Virtual Well Into January

Last week before the Thanksgiving holiday, City of Oneonta School District Superintendent Thomas Brindley announced the district will be on 100% virtual learning until Tuesday, Jan. 19.  With concerns over a few staff members who work out of Riverside Elementary School, one out of Greater Plains Elementary, and a shared school employee who works between two schools, along with one high school student confirmed to have COVID-19, Brindley thought it best to go virtual through the holiday season.

Those above mentioned confirmed cases may seem few in number, however, there are 81 Oneonta School District students and 27 staff members who are believed to have been exposed to those individuals who are confirmed with the virus. Those who may have been exposed are currently in quarantine.

The following will continue despite district-wide virtual instruction:

• All New Visions students will continue to attend their program.
• All BOCES CTE (Career and Technical Education) students will continue to attend their programs as usual during this time.
• All Full Day BOCES students will continue to attend their programs as normal.
• Meal distribution will continue to take place at our designated meal distribution points on Wednesdays.
