ONEONTA POLICE DEPARTMENT
For Immediate Release

On January 11, 2016 the City of Oneonta Police Department arrested:

Brendan R Murphy, 37 years of age from Oneonta NY

for the following felonies:

Assault in the second degree, class D Felony
Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree, class E Felony

and the class A misdemeanor of

Menacing in the 2nd degree

All of the charges are subsequent to an investigation of an incident on January 9, 2016 in which Mr. Murphy is accused of striking another person multiple times with a metal pipe causing physical injury in the form of severe bruising. In addition the victim’s cell phone was broken which was valued in excess of $250. Mr. Murphy was held in the City of Oneonta lock up pending arraignment in City of Oneonta Court.

The maximum punishment for a class D felony is a term of incarceration not to exceed 7 years
The maximum punishment for a class E felony is a term of incarceration not to exceed 4 years
The maximum punishment for a class A misdemeanor is a term of incarceration not to exceed 1 year.
NOTE: All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
