On May 6, 1937 the gigantic zeppelin The Hindenburg was easing its way into its mooring at Lakehurst, New Jersey when all of a sudden it blew up.

Herbert Morrison, then a young reporter for WLS in Chicago, was sent to Lakehurst to cover the event live for his listeners back home.  His breathtaking account of the unfolding disaster in front of him is considered to be one of the most momentous broadcasts in radio history.
